The Higher Will Power

The way I see it, it could have gone in several different directions – the fact that I became a member of A.A. and chose a life of recovery is the work of a Higher Power, and no other.  Believing and working Step Three came right after Steps One and Two – which means that I first had to become willing to understand my powerlessness over alcohol, and then I had to search out a Power greater than me.  Making a decision to turn my life and my will over to this Power greater than me, and greater than my disease was not an overnight event – it took time, time, time.  I became willing to rely on my Higher Power fairly early in recovery.  He led me to the tables and the rooms of A.A., and it is there that I found a reason to continue to live – that I might be of service to others, in whatever way that defines itself. Turning my life and my will over to the care of God as I understand Him – that is just the very beginning of understanding acceptance, and willingness.

  1. The way of faith is, of course, not confined to A.A. It is for everybody who really wants to live. But many people can go through life without much of it. Many are doing so, to their own sorrow. The world is full of lack of faith. Many people have lost confidence in any meaning in the universe. Many are wondering if it has any meaning at all. Many are at loose ends. Life has no goal for many. They are strangers in the land. They are not at home. But for us in A.A., the way of faith is the way of life. We have proved by our past lives that we could not live without it.

Thanks for your share on faith, this exerpt is out of 24 aa thought for the day.

    Love the picture, Maggie,

  2. When I listen to the shares at a meeting, it seems that those who faithfully practice our principles express the presence of faith. There is”something” there that they have come to rely on, a Power Greater than Themselves. I have been told our more religious members call it God Consciousness. I personally find Appendix II in the BB wonderfully helpful.
    Grateful for the Gift

  3. I have to believe, be willing and accept steps 1-3 every day. my faith helps me live these steps, but I have to connect with God daily for help from my higher power to stay sober and also get help with my negative characteristics

  4. Fortunately you good folks convinced me that faith could be cultivated, and that the more effort I put into that, the greater the results would be.
    Still seeking.
