From The AA File

(A Dear Friend and Medium went to Heaven today unexpected, Michael, you are loved!)

Quote is from a file of A.A. related items. In other words, I don’t know where it came from.  So here are the “Instructions for Life: Good Karma”

1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose; don’t lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three R’s: Respect for self, Respect for others, and Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
14. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.
15. Be gentle with the earth.
16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.
17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
20. Be the light you want to see in the world.

  1. My soul rests with you, my Anamchara.

I am so distressed about the injustice and unrighteousness wreaked upon innocent people that I have a feeling of, “I just don’t know what we’re going to be able to do about this”. This is a perfect setup for prayer and I mean ardent and very sincere desire that we somehow reach and teach our terroristic perpetrators and furthermore somehow bring about a total change in thought and therefore motivation for these dastardly deeds.
I must say that their community of people of like faith seems to be doing what they can to distance themselves but this is not the solution. The solution comes in persons admitting they are wrong in perpetrating injustice mostly due to misinformational indoctrination disseminated and received even from early childhood.
My understanding of Jihad is the teaching is intended for Muslims to be a manifestation of personal spiritual warfare very similar to our own fearless and searching moral inventories and not for its perverted manifestations in terroristic actions of unrighteousness and injustice.

Perhaps the “Jihadist” should engage in a personal Jihad.

So must this central teaching from the Quran be totally overhauled in the context of loving our neighbors as ourselves?
I’m reasonably sure this teaching is also there in the Quran.

My prayers are for the health, wealth and happiness of all people.

    I’m Harry, grateful 12-step-er.

  2. The foregoing, and the last item on the introductory karma list, to me, suggest the same objective- Be the Light we want to see in the world….no more, no less.
    How to do that?
The Tewlfth Step feels a pretty good answer, in the present, accepting all, recognising both my responsibility and the opportunity.
    Grateful for the Gift

  3. Sounds like Michael left some good memories here on earth, amen.
Still saying prayers for the people whom I had some hatred for a week or so ago and the family’s of victim’s taken by the terrorist’s actions. I also have prayers for many others which are more specific like Capt Mike who just had a heart procedure, my ma brothers and co worker and his family. I’m gonna miss bible study today but i get to move into the local art gallery after a week of waiting to be juried in even getting a frantic call yesterday before i was ready to do business asking for a case for a pen. Grateful to be aware of my blessings today and may he bless you all as much.

  4. The karma list is a good one, but needs to also include instructions of the We for support, and especially our HP. Mine is God and prayer. As an alcoholic in recovery, these are important instructions in my life.
My prayers go out to the individuals and their families who are killed by individuals for the wrong teachings and beliefs. Being a Veteran, justice is not achieved by killing, especially innocent lives.

  5. Greetings Family,
Our faith life shows that prayer is our most powerful/dynamice tool.
When we pray: we are speaking to God. When in solitude, we are listening to God. I forget often, that my Master enjoys hearing from me as well. God is omnipresent. He longs for us/his children. Today, I understand He knows my heart: however, He longs to hear my voice tell him. Through Him and with HIm, prayer(s) ignites His Love revolution for His world. Have mercy on us and have mercy on this world. Amen…
