Time – it just takes time to understand, to accept, to believe and to build a solid foundation of recovery. I used to believe that I had to be the one with the power, that if I just had enough “guts” I could control my drinking. My addiction to alcohol had little to nothing to do with my will power. I have come to understand the true nature of this “killer” disease. It is a spiritual malady, one that has misguided me for years and years. I blamed everyone and everything for my problem, never accepting my part in my disease. Through working the Steps, and being an active member of A.A., I have come to believe that the solution lies within me, not outside of me. Having accepted the fact of my defects of character, I then can work at becoming ready to give up those behaviors which harmed both myself and others. I am so grateful to have this blog to be able to share honest and open comments for you all as well. Today was a good day. A sober day.

  1. Just another quick note on the FAIR USE of copyrighted material.

Additionally, “transformative” uses are more likely to be considered fair. –Wikipedia

    Learner’s definition of TRANSFORMATIVE
: causing or able to cause a change
especially : causing someone’s life to be different or better in some important way
    a transformative experience
    the transformative power of love
    a transformative force

If our use of such material here isn’t considered to be transformative just what in the world is it?

My only problem with this blog site in this respect is the intrusion of advertising and it might be a problem as far as copyright law is concerned. I will be happy to make a substantial donation to have this omitted.

    • JUNE 8
Self-searching is the means by which we bring new vision,
action, and grace to bear upon the dark and negative side
of our natures With it comes the development of that kind of
humility that makes it possible for us to receive God’s help.
. . . we find that bit by bit we can discard the old life—the
one that did not work—for a new life that can and does
      work under any conditions whatever.

      Meditation for the Day

Your life has been given to you mainly for the purpose of training your soul. This life we live is not so much for the body as for the soul. We often choose the way of life that best suits the body, not the way that best suits the soul. God wants you to choose what suits the soul as well as the body. Accept this belief and a wonderful molding of character is the result. Reject it and God’s purpose for your life is frustrated, and your spiritual progress is delayed. Your soul is being trained by the good you choose. Thus the purpose of your life is being accomplished.

      Prayer for the Day

I pray that I may choose what is good for my soul. I pray that I may realize God’s purpose for my life. — Hazelden, Thought for the Day.

      • How do we change?
        How are we transformed?

I have been transformed by the renewal of my mind and by growth of absolute faith in a power greater than myself.

Lately I’ve been hearing a good bit about the most consistent thing that successfully recovering people are doing and believe it or not its PRAYING!

  2. My experience is that I only change in this present moment, that fleeting, precious, gone already sense of detached awareness.
It is only there that I actually sense That Which Is.
It is only there that I may hear.
It is only through emptying of self that I might glimpse Unity.
My breath, in my chest, next to my heart, brings me into this conscious contact.
Used to be my breath just reeked of alcohol.
    Grateful for the Gift.

  3. Top of the morning family,
Every time I hear, “time” in a topic/share, I always think to Jim Croce’s song: Time in a bottle:
“But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do, once you find them”

Tomorrow has never been promised to us.
God has promised that He will never leave us. Does my trust match His love for me?!
Father Edmondo mentioned in one of his homilies: Patience or longsuffering is “love” waiting.

This fellowship of successful living allows us to know that we have only today. I can’t borrow worries, fear, and, anxiety from tomorrow and spend them on today. We need to take advantage of this opportunity. It’s only in the presence of time now, that change can happen. Today, we can enjoy the beauty of life right now. Today, we are blessed to show others love while we have the chance; just for today.
Divine Mercy guarantees promises for those who walk in His sunlight.

It’s a good day; for something golden will happen today.

  4. Had to get my BB out of a box to share this with you.(moving!)
    Set aside prayer
God, please set aside everything I think I know about myself and the 12 steps in this book, the meetings, my disease and you God, so that I may have an open mind and a New experience with all these things.

    • Nice Mags. first I’ve heard of this golden prayer. defaults preconceived beliefs/fears.
      – Something golden just happened….

      • This is what got me back to this journey after relapsing after 10 years. My first sponsor shared it with me, and notations of where it can be found in the BB. Once I’m settled for the summer, I’ll find those parts and share them here.
        It certainly is golden.

        • Been researching it: hehehehe
Will be sharing this with my sponsee’s and my well’er this week!
And after work, going right up on my frig!

This prayer comes from the Chapter to the Agnostic, primarily pages 47 and 48).
          We Agnostics
“It meant I would have to throw several lifelong conceptions out of the window”

          We Agnostics
“We found that as soon as we were able to lay aside prejudice and express even a willingness to believe in a power greater than ourselves. We commenced to get results even though it was impossible for any of us fully define or comprehend that power which is God.”

          We Agnostics
“Do not let any prejudice you may have against any spiritual terms deter you from honestly asking yourself what they mean to you.”

          We Agnostics
“Besides a seeming inability to accept much on faith, we often found ourselves handicapped by obstinacy, sensitiveness, and unreasoning prejudice.”

“It finally beat us into a state of reasonableness. Sometimes this was a tedious process; we hope no one else will be prejudiced for as long as some of us were.:

          We Agnostics
“We who have traveled this dubious path, beg you to lay aside prejudice, even against organized religion.”

          How It Works
“Some of us have tried to hold on to our old ideas and the result was nil until we let go absolutely.”

        • Oh yeas and Amen! Thanks Maggie, a good reminder. ,one speaker I heard, said she was told pick up the bb and read any page, any page will do. Lol
