The benefits of conformity to A.A. principles was very evident in other members. I could see conformity at work in their lives. The Traditions are a big help in understanding why conformity to the spiritual principles is an essential part of recovery. The Steps teach me about my behavior, while the Traditions teach me about my interactions with others, and how service to others can be of benefit to me. There are consequences for bad behavior, and there are rewards for good behavior – this lesson has been my downfall as of late, but I have reached an understanding. The Spiritual Principles have taught me about “good behavior,” what it is and why I need it. I have quit rebelling against everything and everyone, and am finally coming to terms with my own behaviors and beliefs.

  1. A fine morning to all.
Appreciate Bonnie’s discussion of conformity- the word always irked me.
I sure didn’t want to be a conformist- nope, I wanted to be a rugged, free individualist. And I didn’t want to be a nonconformist either- that sounded like simply being the opposite, only in a different colour OR, even worse, some kind of sloppy, messy whatever.
Truth is I didn’t want anybody or anything to tell me what to do; then I got stuck on the booze and found out the BB was right…”We alcoholics are undisciplined, so we let God discipline us”.
    So I let him.
The result has become a life ” beyond my wildest dreams” that just keeps getting better-through cancer, family dramas, financial stress and all the usual happenings of ordinary existence, as I turn my will over.
    Grateful for the Gift

  2. Top of the morning family,
It’s no secret; I must change!
Self will often focus on what I want God to do in and around my life – King Clay’s spiritual temper tantrums. Today, I’m leaning more forward in the trusting foxhole that everything Divine Mercy does and gives me is truly for my own good. Each trial, each heal-click, and each new day brings me closer that Divine Mercy knows exactly what He’s doing.

It’s a good day to learn one good attribute about ourselves day.
