The Spirit Of The Rooms

Like many members I grew up with a flawed view of what it means to live a spiritual life. I saw many instances where people said one thing, and yet did another. So, to say I was a little confused in the beginning was just the “tip” of the iceberg for me. I truly believed that being spiritual meant living by a set of rules that were established centuries ago, and really had little to no relevance in today’s world. The thought of adhering to spiritual principles scared me, as I had failed that course of action years ago. But there was “something” in the rooms that kept me coming back. Today I know it was the “spirit” of my Higher Power. The concept of a Higher Power was something that I could relate to – this “power” helped me to find sobriety, and I could also see it at work in the lives of others in the rooms of A.A. There were many in the meetings that had “long term sobriety,” which, to me, meant they had found a power greater than their disease. And mine. What a miracle!

  1. I suppose the Hound of Heaven is always in pursuit of us.
Isn’t it a wonderful thing when we acquiesce.
Step 10, 11 and 12 keep me in communion.

I’m Harry, grateful alcoholic and devoted 12 stepper.

  2. I think treating all people with respect and living by the “Golden Rule” is the easiest way for me to live by spiritual principles.

  3. I was told to stick with the winners?
what did that mean? I didn’t know.

I know I must get along without liquor, but how can I?

    Our preamble says it all!!!
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
Heavy metal thunder nuggets in our preamble:
    – Share, hope, solve, help others, and recover.

For me, its about becoming aligned in Him and through Him.
Divine Mercy desires a relationship, not my performance.
    – My life is His business, not my business.

Its a good day to understand what my business is is day.

  5. Sister Bonnie your always in my prayers as with all those that come here to quench our thirst. On the upside, your one day closer to a full recovery. On the downside, is this the foot you start your day with? =)
    peace / progress

    • You ALWAYS inspire a thought that keeps it going in my head!! Good stuff! Hugs
I’m left handed and always step out with the left- for 6 weeks, that will change. Change is good!

  6. SMB, hope you weather through your surgery tomorrow, this is one time you can keep your best foot to the back
Prayers and fall blessings, I am grateful today as I was able to get together with some like minded women, searching for more God conscious in their everyday lives and learning about the power of prayer. This is a change for me to be able to sit for over an hour and a half and pray and discuss challenges that other women feel, who are normal women and not alcoholics. We are all challenged with concerns, and we all are able to smile about letting go let God. 🙂
